Former Europa League champions Sevilla have announced the signing of Nigerian winger Chidera Ejuke on a free transfer, marking their first acquisition for the 2024/2025 La Liga season.
Ejuke, who was born in Zaria, Nigeria, has had an eventful career across several European leagues.
The versatile right-footed winger has played predominantly on the left wing but has been deployed in various attacking roles throughout his career.
His journey in Europe began in 2017 with Norwegian side Vålerenga, where he quickly made an impact.
During his two seasons in Norway, Ejuke made 59 appearances, scoring 15 goals and providing six assists.
His impressive performance caught the eye of Dutch club Heerenveen, where he continued to shine.
In his single season with Heerenveen, Ejuke netted 10 goals and added six assists, further enhancing his reputation as a dynamic attacking player.
This prolific form led to a move to Russian giants CSKA Moscow. At CSKA, Ejuke continued to demonstrate his offensive prowess, scoring 10 goals and recording eight assists.
He also made his debut in European competitions, featuring in five UEFA Europa League matches.
The last two seasons saw Ejuke on loan, first to Hertha Berlin in the 2022/23 season, where he played alongside Dodi Lukebakio, and then to Royal Antwerp for the 2023/24 season.
At Antwerp, he made four appearances in the UEFA Champions League under the guidance of coach Mark van Bommel.
On the international stage, Ejuke debuted for the Nigerian national team in 2020, following his representation of the Super Eagles at various youth levels.
Since then, he has earned eight caps, contributing during the qualifying campaigns for both the World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.
Sevilla’s acquisition of Ejuke is seen as a strategic move to bolster their attacking options for the upcoming season.
The club’s official statement highlighted their excitement about bringing in a player of Ejuke’s caliber, noting his versatility and experience in top European leagues and international competitions.
With this signing, Sevilla aims to enhance their squad depth and attacking flexibility as they prepare for another competitive La Liga campaign.
