Zwane dismisses exit talk and pledges full commitment to AmaZulu project

Arthur Zwane has moved to quell mounting speculation over his future by stressing he is fully committed to AmaZulu and not entertaining interest from other clubs.

The AmaZulu FC head coach has been linked with a potential move away after an eye-catching 2025/26 campaign in which he led Usuthu to a fourth-place finish in the Betway Premiership. Sekhukhune United are understood to be among the clubs monitoring his situation.

Speaking at the Betway Premiership 2026/27 season launch in Johannesburg on Wednesday, Zwane underlined that he remains focused on his work at AmaZulu and is determined not to be distracted by what he described as “noise” from outside.

“As an individual, I always know what I want. Since when I was a player, I was always like that,” Zwane said.

“When I’m focusing on something, I don’t need any disturbance or disruption. So, I focus on that and make sure that I succeed.

“Also, this project, it is appealing to me. It’s very, very important for my career. So, things are still going well for me. So, it’s a little bit difficult to think about everything.”

Interest grows after breakthrough season

Zwane’s stock has risen sharply following AmaZulu’s strong league campaign last season, both in terms of results and performances. The team’s progress and style of play under his guidance have drawn praise across South African football and inevitably attracted attention from rival clubs.

Despite that, Zwane’s comments at the launch suggest he sees his immediate future in Durban and is intent on building on the foundations already laid, rather than seeking a new challenge elsewhere.

The 2026/27 season will offer an opportunity for AmaZulu to consolidate their position near the top end of the table and to show that last season’s finish was no one-off. Zwane indicated that the scale and significance of the project at Usuthu are central to his thinking as he plans the next phase of their development.

From joint role to sole charge

Zwane arrived at AmaZulu in 2024 as co-head coach, working alongside Vusumuzi Vilakazi. The pair initially shared responsibility for first-team matters before Zwane assumed full control of the side the following year.

His first full season as sole head coach, the 2025/26 campaign, brought a notable upturn in fortunes as AmaZulu secured fourth place in the league. That achievement has been a key factor in the current speculation surrounding his future, but also in the coach’s belief that the club is moving in the right direction.

Unusual ‘home’ opener for AmaZulu

AmaZulu will open their new Betway Premiership campaign against Stellenbosch FC, but in unusual circumstances.

The match has been scheduled for Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont, where Stellies will host the fixture away from their usual Western Cape base. The relocation is due to the unavailability of suitable stadiums in the Western Cape for the start of the season.

For Zwane, the focus now turns from off-season rumours to preparing his squad for that curtain-raiser and the challenges of a new campaign, with his message clear: his attention remains firmly on AmaZulu and the work still to be done at Usuthu.
