Zizo strikes for Al Ahly but is forced off injured against Barcelona in Joan Gamper Trophy
Ahmed Sayed Zizo scored for Al Ahly against Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy before leaving the match injured, as the Egyptian side reduced their deficit to 2-1 at Spotify Camp Nou.
Zizo found the net in the 51st minute, giving Al Ahly renewed hope after Barcelona had established a two-goal lead before half-time. However, the forward’s contribution was cut short when he was substituted a few minutes after scoring.
He left the pitch alongside Karim Fouad, with Al Ahly manager Hussein Ammouta introducing Mohamed Magdy Afsha and Karim El Debes as replacements.
The match is being played on Wednesday evening as part of the 61st edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy, Barcelona’s annual pre-season friendly tournament ahead of the new campaign.
Barcelona had taken the lead in the 30th minute through Hamza Abdelkarim, who scored against his former club. Raphinha then doubled the Catalan side’s advantage from the penalty spot in the 45th minute, sending Barcelona into the interval 2-0 ahead.
Despite scoring against Al Ahly, Abdelkarim, who is 18, chose not to celebrate. The Egypt international placed his hands beneath his head, appearing to apologise to the Al Ahly supporters inside the stadium.
The fixture carries particular significance for Abdelkarim because it marks his first meeting with Al Ahly since making his move to Barcelona permanent. He initially joined the Catalan club on loan during the second half of last season.
In June 2026, Barcelona announced that they had activated the purchase option in Abdelkarim’s loan agreement. The young forward subsequently signed a new contract with the club that runs until the summer of 2029.
Abdelkarim has attracted considerable attention during Barcelona’s pre-season preparations. He scored in the club’s 5-2 victory over Swiss side Basel and added two goals in a 2-2 draw with English team Birmingham City.
The result against Al Ahly is another part of Barcelona’s preparations for the new season, while the Joan Gamper Trophy continues its traditional role as the club’s final major pre-season fixture.
Zizo’s goal briefly brought Al Ahly back into the contest, but his departure through injury overshadowed the strike and left the Egyptian side facing a difficult second half against the hosts.
