Zamalek’s fight for survival as crisis deepens
Hossam Al-Mandouh, Zamalek’s treasurer, has issued strong warnings about the club’s financial and administrative condition.
He insists that the future of the club depends on reclaiming the October 6th City land. Al-Mandouh described Zamalek’s situation as “disastrous,” stating, “When we took over, Zamalek was like a patient; now, it’s literally dying.” He stresses that the October 6th land crisis is not just a property issue, but the “lifeline” for Zamalek’s survival and investment.
He further explains, “Not regaining this land means the club could collapse completely. I really hope we don’t reach bankruptcy.” Short-term financial solutions like sponsorships or donations, he argues, will not solve the problem. “We’re dealing with massive challenges and being blamed for things we didn’t do,” Al-Mandouh adds.
Though questions about the board resigning have surfaced, Al-Mandouh neither confirmed nor denied this, saying, “We shouldn’t talk about that now. But if things remain unresolved, it’ll be tough to continue.”
As fans lose faith in the board, “Save Zamalek, President” dominated the social media platform X, highlighting public anxiety. Prominent figures and fans have echoed these sentiments, with former star Mahmoud Abdel-Razek Shikabala calling Zamalek a “pillar of Egyptian soft power.” The October 6th land issue looms as the club’s greatest challenge, threatening stability and putting Zamalek’s very future on the line
