Zamalek say Mohamed El Sayed suffered a different injury against Abu Qir Fertilizers

Zamalek have confirmed that Mohamed El Sayed’s latest injury is unrelated to the ankle problem that recently kept him out of action.

The midfielder was hurt during Zamalek’s 2-0 victory over Abu Qir Fertilizers at Cairo International Stadium on Tuesday. The club said he sustained a severe bruise to the metatarsal area of his foot after a strong challenge from an Abu Qir Fertilizers player.

A source at Zamalek told FilGoal.com: “The first injury that Mohamed El Sayed suffered was an ankle sprain, which caused him to miss the Port match. He returned to training four days before the Abu Qir Fertilizers game.”

The source added: “Yesterday’s injury was a very severe bruise to the metatarsal of the foot as a result of a strong challenge from an Abu Qir Fertilizers player. The player underwent medical examinations and scans yesterday and had a splint fitted. He will undergo further tests in the coming hours to determine the treatment method and its duration.”

Zamalek are waiting for the additional assessments before deciding how El Sayed’s latest problem will be managed and how long he is likely to be unavailable. No timetable for his return has yet been given.

The injury came shortly after El Sayed had returned to Zamalek’s squad. He had previously been hurt during the match involving Suez and Petrojet and subsequently missed the game against Port before recovering in time to feature against Abu Qir Fertilizers.

Zamalek secured all three points against Abu Qir Fertilizers with a 2-0 win. The result took them to 10 points in the Premier League this season after the opening four rounds.

Their record so far is three victories and one draw. El Sayed’s condition will now be monitored through further examinations, with the club expected to establish the extent of the foot injury and the appropriate length of his recovery period in the coming hours.
