Tharwat Swelam, a member of the league’s management, outlined several scenarios for handling Zamalek’s stance, including their recent decision to abstain from fixtures, notably against arch-rivals Al Ahly scheduled for next Tuesday.
Efforts to convince Zamalek’s administration to reconsider their position during a lengthy three-hour session proved futile, despite the league’s clear regulations on such matters.
According to Swelam, the initial consequence for Zamalek is a default 2-0 loss, with repeated offenses potentially leading to relegation to the fourth division.
In response, a highly placed source within Zamalek’s management expressed deep frustration with the league’s approach in comments to “Al-Masry Al-Youm,” stating, “No one has the authority to relegate Zamalek to lower divisions.
Zamalek is one of Egypt’s premier clubs and demands fair treatment, including equitable refereeing. Such threats are unacceptable.”
