Zakaria El Ouahdi is expected to leave KRC Genk during the summer transfer window after an outstanding season that has attracted interest from clubs across Europe.

The 24-year-old Moroccan right-back enjoyed a remarkable 2025/26 campaign with the Belgian side, producing 12 goals and five assists in all competitions.

His performances were rewarded with the Ebony Shoe, further strengthening his reputation as one of the most impressive players in Belgian football this season.

Genk have placed a €15 million valuation on the defender ahead of the upcoming transfer window, with several clubs already monitoring his situation closely.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Africafoot, the player’s father and agent, Achachbar Mohamed, confirmed that a transfer is now part of the family’s plans, although the immediate focus remains on ending the season strongly with Genk.

“The goal is to leave this year.”

Despite the growing transfer speculation surrounding the Moroccan defender, his father explained that the family is remaining calm and focused while the club continues its push to secure European qualification.

“It’s important for us and for him that he stays on the right path.”

According to his father, El Ouahdi’s balance and discipline are strongly connected to his religion and family values, which continue to guide him through the pressures of professional football.

Interest in the attacking full-back is reportedly growing across several leagues. Clubs in France, including Olympique de Marseille and Olympique Lyonnais, are believed to be following his progress, while Dutch side PSV Eindhoven have also been linked with the player.

In England, Crystal Palace, Everton and Brentford are reportedly among the clubs showing interest in the Moroccan international.

“We are in discussions with clubs from different leagues.”

The Premier League appears to hold special appeal for El Ouahdi, although his father stressed that any final decision would depend on the overall sporting project being offered.

“It’s true that playing in the Premier League is every player’s dream.”

“There’s England, Germany, Italy, La Liga… The most important thing is that he can play in a higher league.”

After five years in Belgian football, El Ouahdi now appears ready to take the next step in his career as interest in the Moroccan defender continues to intensify ahead of the summer transfer window.
