Kylian Mbappe praises PSG’s Champions League transformation

Kylian Mbappe has admitted that Paris Saint-Germain’s rise since his departure has exceeded expectations.

After leaving for Real Madrid in 2024, the France captain watched his former club win consecutive Champions League titles under Luis Enrique.

Mbappe believes PSG’s success was built on a carefully planned recruitment strategy. Five arrivals played especially important roles: Willian Pacho strengthened the defence alongside Marquinhos, while Joao Neves added quality and energy to midfield. Desire Doue emerged as one of the club’s biggest breakthroughs, Matvey Safonov became an important goalkeeping option, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia brought further attacking creativity.

“The two consecutive Champions Leagues for PSG? It is like two plus two equals four,” Mbappe told France Football. “They won, you cannot take that away from them. Congratulations to them. They built their victories.”

He added: “They are the team to beat. Madrid and everyone else will try to dethrone the team that has won twice. That is extraordinary.”

Mbappe remains determined to win the competition with Real Madrid, but the Spanish giants have responded with significant recruitment of their own. Their additions include Jose Mourinho, Bernardo Silva, Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella and Ibrahima Konate.
