Yaya Touré on the verge of first head coach role at Slovan Bratislava
Ivory Coast football legend Yaya Touré is reportedly close to being appointed as the new head coach of Slovak champions Slovan Bratislava, according to multiple reports emerging from Europe.
The former midfielder, widely regarded as one of Africa’s greatest ever players, is understood to be among the leading candidates for the vacant managerial role at the club, which is currently finalising its decision ahead of the new season.
Slovan Bratislava are said to be in the final stages of their recruitment process, with club officials reviewing a shortlist of candidates as they look to strengthen their technical leadership ahead of domestic and European campaigns.
Touré, 41, built a glittering playing career featuring spells at elite European clubs including Barcelona and Manchester City.
At international level, he captained Ivory Coast and famously led the national team to victory at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, defeating Ghana in a dramatic final.
Since retiring, Touré has transitioned into coaching, working in assistant roles and gaining experience within different football setups across Europe and the Middle East.
While he has yet to hold a major head coaching position, his growing reputation in coaching circles has kept him in contention for senior managerial opportunities.
Reports indicate that Slovan Bratislava’s hierarchy view him as one of several strong options, with a decision expected soon as preparations for the upcoming campaign intensify.
If appointed, it would mark Touré’s first major head coach role in professional football.
