Yasser Ibrahim faces Al Ahly dilemma after major Al Shabab offer

Yasser Ibrahim is considering whether to remain with Al Ahly or accept a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian club Al Shabab, which would reportedly pay him three to four times his current salary.

The Egypt defender has been placed in a difficult position as he continues negotiations over a new contract with Al Ahly, who are keen to keep him at the club.

Egyptian broadcaster Ahmed Shobier said Yasser had received a serious proposal from Al Shabab and described the offer as genuine during his programme on On Sport radio.

“The player now has one eye in heaven and one in hell,” Shobier said, referring to Yasser’s uncertainty over whether to continue with Al Ahly or begin a new professional chapter in the Saudi league.

Yasser is understood to be trying to persuade Al Ahly’s officials to allow him to leave, with the financial value of the Al Shabab proposal giving him a strong bargaining position.

At the same time, Al Ahly’s management remains determined to retain the defender and is continuing discussions aimed at improving his financial terms. The club is seeking to extend his contract for a further two seasons.

Shobier said Al Ahly had planned a meeting with Yasser, alongside Imam Ashour, Mostafa Shobeir and Mohamed Hany, to resolve the players’ contract situations. However, the cancellation of a training session led to the meeting being postponed.

The club continues to insist that it wants all of the players to remain part of its squad and is attempting to complete the renewals as quickly as possible.

Shobier also stressed that none of the agreements would become final until the contracts had been officially signed. That leaves Yasser’s future unresolved while negotiations continue between the player and Al Ahly.

The defender’s situation has therefore become one of the key issues for the club during the current summer transfer window. A move to Al Shabab would offer Yasser a significant increase in income, while staying at Al Ahly would allow him to continue with the Egyptian club that is committed to keeping him.

For now, neither side has confirmed that an agreement has been reached. Al Ahly are still working to improve their renewal offer, while Yasser weighs that proposal against the substantially higher salary available in Saudi Arabia.
