Wydad Casablanca have denied making any approach to sign Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup next month.
Spanish newspaper Marca has reported that the Moroccan club have expressed interest in signing the Portuguese forward for the expanded tournament.
Ronaldo’s future at Saudi side Al Nassr remains uncertain, with his contract due to expire this summer on June 30.
According to Marca, Wydad were among the clubs exploring the possibility of a short-term deal for the 39-year-old to boost both their sporting ambitions and visibility at the expanded 32-team tournament, which begins in the United States on June 14.
However, Wydad president Hicham Aït Menna dismissed the speculation in comments to Moroccan outlet SNRTNews, stating the club had neither the intention nor the financial means to pursue such a move.
Wydad, who qualified for the Club World Cup as one of four African representatives, have been drawn in Group G alongside Manchester City, Juventus, and Al Ain.
FIFA is expected to benefit commercially from the participation of both Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, whose Inter Miami side will also take part in what will be the first Club World Cup under its new format.
Meanwhile, Wydad have been paired with Manchester City, Al Ain and Juventus in Group G.
