Wydad AC captain Nordin Amrabat sidelined for three weeks with thigh injury
Wydad AC will be without captain Nordin Amrabat for the next three weeks after the Moroccan international suffered a muscle injury in their recent league clash, the club confirmed following medical evaluations on March 4, 2026.
The 38-year-old winger sustained a tear in his right thigh during Wydad’s 1–0 victory over RS Berkane on March 1 in the 14th round of the Botola Pro. He has since begun a rehabilitation program under the guidance of the club’s medical staff.
Amrabat’s absence comes at a critical moment, with Wydad set to face AS FAR in the highly anticipated Botola Pro Clasico at the Mohammed V Complex in Casablanca. The match carries significant weight in the title race, where the standings are tightly packed:
- Raja CA – 27 points
- Wydad AC – 26 points
- MAS Fes – 24 points
- COD Meknes – 23 points
- AS FAR – 22 points
A victory for Wydad would reclaim top spot, while a win for AS FAR would move them into third.
Before his injury, Amrabat had appeared in 15 league matches this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists, while also serving as a key leader on and off the pitch.
With the veteran sidelined, coach Benhachem is expected to rely on younger options such as Saifeddine Bouhra or Oussama El Zemraoui to fill the right-wing role for this pivotal encounter.
Wydad’s medical team is optimistic that Amrabat will recover in time to feature in the decisive stages of the CAF Confederation Cup later this month, closely monitoring his progress as the club navigates a crucial period in both domestic and continental competitions.
