World Cup winner urges Bayern to target Achraf Hakimi’s defensive gaps ahead of PSG clash
Bayern Munich have been advised to exploit defensive weaknesses in Paris Saint-Germain as they prepare for a crucial UEFA Champions League semi-final showdown.
Former Germany international Benedikt Höwedes, a member of the country’s 2014 World Cup-winning squad, believes the key to Bayern’s success lies in targeting the defensive side of Achraf Hakimi.
Speaking in an interview reported by Bild via Kicker, Höwedes highlighted what he sees as vulnerabilities in PSG’s setup. He explained: “Offensively, Hakimi and Nuno Mendes are world-class players, but defensively, and especially with Hakimi, there are some gaps. Also, how well do Doi and Kvaratskhelia coordinate in defence?”
He added: “If you face Ulisse in a one-on-one, you will inevitably lose – no one can defend alone.”
While pointing out potential weaknesses, Höwedes also cautioned Bayern against complacency, noting that PSG have significantly improved since their 2-1 league victory over the German side last November.
Attention also turns to Harry Kane and his teammates, with Höwedes stressing the importance of peak physical condition across both legs of the tie.
He stated, “Harry Kane and his teammates must be fully fit for the first leg tomorrow, Tuesday, and of course for the second leg as well. Everything must be perfect.”
With both sides chasing a place in the final, the tactical battle is already taking shape, and Bayern’s ability to capitalise on PSG’s defensive frailties could prove decisive over the two legs.
