World Cup 2026: We want to improve after every game – Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi
Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi has outlined his vision for the Atlas Lions at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stressing that continuous improvement from one match to the next will be key to achieving success in the tournament.
The North African side enters the competition with growing confidence and high expectations, and Ouahbi believes his team is well-positioned to make a strong start as they prepare to face Brazil in their opening Group C fixture on Saturday, June 13.
Focus on Growth Throughout the Tournament
Speaking ahead of Morocco’s World Cup opener, Ouahbi emphasised that his team’s objective is not only to compete but to develop and improve with every game they play.
“I think we are in a good position to start the tournament. And the goal is to improve match after match. So, I have no complaints,” Ouahbi said.
The coach’s comments highlight a long-term approach, with Morocco aiming to build momentum as the tournament progresses while maintaining their ambition of advancing deep into the competition.
Confidence High Ahead of Brazil Test
Despite facing one of the favourites for the World Cup title in their opening match, Ouahbi expressed confidence in his squad and the work that has been done behind the scenes.
“It’s clear that the atmosphere is positive. We are very confident. We trust in the physical condition of the players, in what we have put in place, and in the principles and values we have instilled,” he stated.
The Morocco coach believes the squad has embraced the tactical ideas and mentality required to compete against the world’s best teams on football’s biggest stage.
Lessons from Previous Performances
Ouahbi also pointed to Morocco’s recent displays as evidence that the team is moving in the right direction, while acknowledging that results at the World Cup will ultimately determine how far they can go.
“Ultimately, it will be the matches we win that will show us where we stand, but we already saw that against Norway,” he said.
His remarks reflect a balance between confidence and realism as Morocco prepares for one of the toughest opening fixtures of the tournament.
Eyes on a Strong Start
The Atlas Lions will be hoping to begin their World Cup campaign with a statement performance when they take on Brazil in a blockbuster Group C encounter at MetLife Stadium.
With confidence running high within the Moroccan camp and a clear focus on continuous improvement, Ouahbi’s side will be aiming to prove they can compete with the tournament’s elite when kick-off gets underway at 22:00 GMT on Saturday.
