Adel Taarabt explains missed Manchester United and Arsenal moves

Adel Taarabt has revealed how a heated exchange with Queens Park Rangers teammate Shaun Derry may have cost him a move to Manchester United.

The Moroccan playmaker said Sir Alex Ferguson watched him during QPR’s Championship meeting with Hull City in 2011, but the manager reportedly questioned his mentality after seeing the confrontation.

According to Taarabt, Ferguson ultimately decided against signing him. The incident became one of several moments that shaped a career filled with remarkable talent, strong personality and missed opportunities.

Taarabt also disclosed that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger tried to recruit him. Wenger offered the midfielder the chance to play Champions League football, but Taarabt turned down the proposal because of concerns about wages and whether he would receive regular playing time.

The former QPR star further admitted that his lifestyle sometimes created problems. He occasionally went out the night before matches, although manager Neil Warnock accepted that behaviour because of Taarabt’s importance to the team.
