Ghana defender Jerome Opoku insists his outfit will continue to stay grounded following a hard-fought stalemate against England at the ongoing 2026 World Cup tournament in the North America.

Both teams arrived into the contest on the back of opening victories at the global showpiece, but it was Ghana who produced a disciplined defensive display to frustrate a dominant England side.

The West African football heavyweights made a statement, holding the European giants to a pulsating goalless draw on Tuesday night.

“I appreciate the love from the fans. And we’re going to continue to stay grounded.” He said after the game.

“Ghanaians didn’t really think this team was that good, did they? Some people saying this is the worst, honest with you, history,” he said. “And so, me and the boys were talking about it.”

“Through my life, I’ve been an underdog. So, there’s nothing unusual. You know, that’s my being doubted. It’s been my habit. So, in my habitat. To prove people wrong — I get a buzz from it. And so does the team.”

“Now we’re showing the fans, showing the world what we can do.”

The result leaves both sides level on four points at the top of Group L heading into the final round of fixtures. England will next face Panama, while Ghana prepare for a decisive showdown with Croatia, with qualification for the knockout stage still finely balanced.
