World Cup 2026: Brazil star Vinícius Júnior blames heat and pitch conditions for Morocco draw
Brazil forward Vinícius Júnior has attributed his outfits1-1 stalemate against Morocco to difficult weather conditions and the state of the pitch.
The Real Madrid attacker, who scored Brazil’s only goal in the 2026 World Cup Group C encounter, admitted that the team struggled to impose their usual rhythm at MetLife Stadium due to the high temperatures and dry playing surface.
“There’s the heat, and the pitch dries very quickly,” Vinícius explained after the match. “It’s difficult to play in these conditions. We can’t maintain the rhythm we want, and that doesn’t help us because we try to circulate the ball and move it across different areas of the pitch.”
He also acknowledged the strength of the Moroccan side, describing them as one of the most competitive teams in international football at present, and warned that Brazil must adapt quickly to the challenging environment as the tournament progresses.
“We have to adapt because I think the situation will be similar throughout the World Cup. We will improve our performance and achieve victories in the upcoming matches,” he added.
Despite finding the net, Vinícius admitted he was not fully satisfied with his personal display, insisting there is room for improvement in both his technical and overall contribution.
“I can perform much better. I scored a goal, but I wasn’t at my best, and I can still improve technically,” he said.
The result has triggered debate in the Brazilian media, where criticism has been directed at the overall performance of the squad led by Carlo Ancelotti. Many observers felt the team fell short of expectations, both individually and collectively, against a well-organised Moroccan side.
Brazil will now turn their attention to their next Group C fixture, where they will be aiming to secure a stronger performance and build momentum in their World Cup campaign.
