Thibaut Courtois and Barcelona forward Raphinha have been included in UEFA’s team of the week for the opening round of the 2026-27 Champions League.
The Real Madrid goalkeeper was selected after his outstanding display in the 3-1 win over Inter Milan, while Raphinha features alongside Paris Saint-Germain forward Ferran Torres, who recently joined the French club from Barcelona.
UEFA announced the line-up on Friday after it was chosen by the organisation’s technical observer group.
Courtois is joined in defence by Sergino Dest of PSV Eindhoven, Marc Bartra of Real Betis, Aston Villa’s Pau Torres and Archie Brown of Fenerbahce.
Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard and Martin Baturina, who plays for Como, were named in midfield.
The attacking positions are occupied by Michael Olise of Bayern Munich, Ferran Torres, Raphinha and Stuttgart forward Ermedin Demirovic.
Courtois earned his place after a decisive performance against Inter Milan at the Santiago Bernabeu. He saved seven of the eight shots that reached his goal, helping Real Madrid secure all three points.
Bartra was also central to his team’s success, scoring twice with headers as Real Betis marked their return to the Champions League with an away victory over Lille.
Pau Torres impressed for Aston Villa against Club Brugge. The defender made eight clearances, created four chances and provided two assists during the match.
Raphinha’s selection followed his influential display in Barcelona’s 5-1 victory over Feyenoord. He led the team’s pressing with intensity and repeatedly threatened by moving in behind the defence and finding space between the lines. He also scored twice.
Ferran Torres completed his first hat-trick for Paris Saint-Germain in their win over Slovan Bratislava. His contribution extended beyond his three goals, with his movement and ability to find the right positions inside the danger area also standing out.
