Tunisia midfielder Rani Khedira reportedly calls time on international career six months after switch

Rani Khedira has reportedly decided to end his international career just six months after switching allegiance to Tunisia and representing the Eagles of Carthage at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to Radio Mosaïque FM, the 32-year-old midfielder has decided to retire from international football and will now focu on his club career with Bundesliga side Union Berlin.

Khedira secured a change of sporting nationality last March, making him eligible to represent Tunisia after previously featuring for Germany at youth level.

The move opened the door for the experienced midfielder to feature for Tunisia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he joined the Eagles of Carthage for the global tournament.

However, his international career with Tunisia could now come to an end after a brief spell, with the decision reportedly generating mixed reactions among Tunisian supporters.

Some have accused Khedira of using the opportunity to represent Tunisia at the World Cup at the age of 32 before bringing his international career to an end shortly after the tournament.

If his retirement is officially confirmed, Tunisia will be forced to look elsewhere for options to strengthen the midfield as the team prepares for its upcoming international commitments.
