Jeremie Frimpong has expressed delight at reuniting with former Bayer Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz at Liverpool, describing their joint move to Anfield as an exciting new chapter.
The Dutch full-back, who was among Leverkusen’s standout performers last season, recently completed his switch to the Premier League giants and is eager to get started.
Frimpong, born in the Netherlands to Ghanaian parents, is among a growing group of players with Ghanaian roots making headlines across Europe.
His transfer to Liverpool not only marks a personal milestone but also deepens the club’s Dutch connection, with Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, and Cody Gakpo already part of the Anfield setup.
“I’m looking forward to playing for Liverpool and of course my good friend Florian Wirtz joining as well. That makes it all extra fun,” Frimpong told ESPN.
Frimpong also spoke highly of Slot, the Dutch manager who succeeded Jürgen Klopp.
“When I first spoke to him, I immediately noticed that he was interested. He said that he really wanted me at Liverpool and that I would fit in well with the team,” he said.
“When you hear that Arne Slot wants you, and you get to play for Liverpool at the same time, it’s a pure honor. How could I say no?”
With pre-season preparations underway, Frimpong is optimistic about what lies ahead.
“I also already know some players from the national team, so yes, I’m really pumped. I can’t wait to get started.”
