AmaZulu edge Marumo Gallants as Arthur Zwane demands improved performance

AmaZulu head coach Arthur Zwane praised his side for securing a 1-0 win over Marumo Gallants but admitted their performance fell below the standards he expects.

Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya scored the only goal at the Princess Magogo Stadium as AmaZulu claimed maximum points and moved up to third in the Betway Premiership table.

The victory was AmaZulu’s fourth league win of the campaign, although Zwane was dissatisfied with the lack of urgency shown by his players.

“We are happy because we managed to grab maximum points, but performance wise I’m not happy. I know we could’ve done much better in the game, but that’s football. Sometimes you will have bad days at the office, and sometimes you will still manage to win.”

AmaZulu created opportunities to establish a more comfortable advantage but were unable to take full advantage of them. Their failure to extend the lead left Gallants with a chance of finding a way back into the contest.

Zwane’s side did enough to protect their advantage and put Marumo Gallants under pressure during different stages of the match, but the coach felt they needed to take greater control.

He challenged the players to impose themselves more effectively and show greater efficiency when chances arise.

AmaZulu will next travel to Polokwane City on the 19th of September. Zwane expects a stronger display against Rise and Shine as his team attempts to build on the result away from home.

The club could also make further changes to the squad before the domestic transfer window closes on the 22nd of September, with Zwane leaving the possibility of reinforcements open.
