Willy Kambwala makes Italy switch as Como 1907 move is confirmed

Willy Kambwala is set to leave Villarreal and join Como 1907 on loan, with the Serie A club holding an option to buy the central defender at the end of the agreement.

The transfer has been confirmed by renowned football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, who used his trademark “Here We Go” announcement to signal that the move is now effectively completed.

Kambwala, 21, will begin a new chapter in Italy after moving on from Villarreal. The defender, who was born in Kinshasa and is of Congolese origin, is expected to continue his development under the guidance of Spanish manager Cesc Fabregas.

The deal represents another important step in the young centre-back’s career. Having previously been regarded as a promising player at Manchester United, Kambwala will now face the tactical and competitive demands of Serie A as he looks to establish himself at a new club.

Como 1907 see the move as a way to strengthen their options in central defence as part of an ambitious project. For Kambwala, the loan offers the prospect of regular and valuable playing time in one of Europe’s most demanding domestic competitions.

His arrival also provides a significant international platform. The defender will have the opportunity to play in the Champions League this season after joining the Italian side, giving him a major stage on which to gain experience and further raise his profile.

That prospect could prove particularly important as Kambwala seeks to consolidate his position among the emerging generation of Congolese footballers. His physical presence and defensive qualities have already helped him attract attention, while the move to Como will expose him to a different tactical environment and a higher level of competition.

The transfer therefore combines immediate sporting benefits for both parties. Como 1907 gain defensive reinforcement for the campaign, while Kambwala receives the chance to continue his progression away from Villarreal and take on a new challenge in Italy.

With the agreement structured as a loan with an option to buy, the move also leaves open the possibility of a permanent switch. For now, Kambwala’s next destination is Como, where he will work under Fabregas and prepare for the demands of Serie A and the Champions League.
