“We’ll prepare to meet expectations” – Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi vows relentless World Cup push
Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi insists his outfit will prepare to meet expectations at the 2026 World Cup tournament.
The global showpiece, to be co-hosted by United States, Canada and Mexico will feature an expanded 48 countries, with Morocco securing one of Africa’s automatic nine slots for the tournament.
The North African powerhouse are paired in Group C alongside record World Cup winners, Brazil, European side, Scotland and Haiti.
Morocco will open their account at the global showpiece in a high-stake clash against Brazil, followed by Scotland. The Atlas Lions will wrap up their group game against Haiti.
As part of preparations for the tournament, the Atlas Lions engaged Paraguay in an international friendly match, where they secured a 2-1 victory over their opponent.
Before this match, Morocco had settled for a 1-1 draw against South American outfit Ecuador.
Speaking after the match, Ouahbi, who recently replaced Walid Regragui insists the side will prepare adequately to meet expectations at the mundial.
“We benefited greatly from the Paraguay experience because they were physically strong. The opponent gave us a good picture in terms of tackles.”
“In the first half of the match, we did not find our comfort in implementing our attacking style, but in the second half, we changed our style, as we relied on speed during the transition to attack, and thank God we scored two goals.”
“With the many changes we made, it was natural that the performance would decline, and we conceded a goal as a result, but the players remained calm and were able to finish the match with a well-deserved victory.”
“We will continue to work and prepare for the World Cup in a way that meets expectations.”
