‘Wearing the colours of Ghana at World Cup is a tremendous honour’ – Marvin Senaya

AJ Auxerre defender Marvin Senaya has expressed immense pride after making a standout impression for Ghana in their 1-1 international friendly draw against Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday night.

The 25-year-old right-back, who recently ended a high-profile nationality dispute by choosing Ghana over Togo, delivered a powerful performance as head coach Carlos Queiroz finalized his 2026 FIFA World Cup preparations.

Senaya played 75 minutes and nearly secured a wondergoal in the first half when his ferocious 30-yard volley forced a reflex save from Welsh goalkeeper Karl Darlow.

Following the intense match, Senaya took to Instagram to share his emotional reflection on the milestone.

“Wearing the colours of Ghana at the World Cup is a tremendous honour,” the defender stated.

“Behind this jersey, there is so much more than football. There is a history, roots, a culture, and an entire people that I am proud to represent. One nation. One people. One star.”

The Black Stars originally took the lead in the 66th minute through a close-range tap-in by Caleb Yirenkyi following a dynamic flank attack initiated by Ernest Nuamah.

However, a stubborn Wales side managed to rescue a draw deep into stoppage time when Lewis Koumas headed home an equalizer three minutes past the 90-minute mark.

Pundits have widely praised Senaya’s defensive resilience, cementing his status as the primary choice for Ghana’s right-back position going into the tournament.

The son of former Togolese international Yao Mawuko Senaya, his strong display in Cardiff solidifies the Ghana Football Association’s successful efforts to secure his international allegiance.
