Fede Valverde’s stunning strike gave Real Madrid the lead against Valencia in their La Liga matchday 12 fixture.

The Uruguay international reacted quickest after Kylian Mbappe’s direct free-kick struck the defensive wall and rebounded into play. Valverde met the loose ball with a powerful right-footed effort, driving it low across goal and beyond the reach of Valencia goalkeeper Dimitrievski, who could only stretch out a hand in a vain attempt to keep it out.

The goal continued Valverde’s impressive form from distance and once again highlighted his ability to make the difference at important moments. It also evoked memories of his excellent finish against AEK Athens in the Champions League last week.
