Wadi Degla mourns beloved goalkeeper Mohamed Aboul-Naga after tragic passing
Wadi Degla and the Egyptian football community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of goalkeeper Mohamed Aboul-Naga, affectionately known as Bonga, who has died at the age of 36.
His passing has shaken the club just as it prepares to return to the Egyptian Premier League after a four-year absence.
Bonga had been struggling with health issues in recent weeks and was admitted to the hospital for medical tests. His condition quickly worsened as elevated liver enzymes led to a coma. On Saturday, his family confirmed his passing following his battle with illness.
A product of Ismaily SC’s youth system, Bonga went on to represent clubs like Al-Merreikh and Petrojet before settling at Wadi Degla, where he became a respected figure both on and off the pitch. Earlier this year, he earned a call-up to Egypt’s national camp for local players under coach Wael Riad and took part in the CHAN qualifiers.
His legacy will be remembered by teammates, fans, and coaches, not just for his skill in goal but for the spirit he brought to every match.
