The long-awaited Wa Sports Complex, part of Ghana’s Youth Resource Center initiative, is finally set for commissioning, six years after construction began. The project, led by Habkay Enterprise, features an eight-lane athletics track surrounding a FIFA-standard football pitch, a 5,000-seat spectator stand, and courts for tennis and basketball.
Progress had stalled in 2018 due to financial constraints, but recent payments from the National Youth Authority (NYA) and the District Assembly’s Common Fund resolved the impasse.
To date, GH₵13.3 million has been invested in the facility, with an additional GH₵664,940 pending after further development phases.
When operational, the Wa Sports Complex will become the second Youth Resource Center to be completed, following the Koforidua Stadium’s transformation into a multi-purpose sports facility in December 2023.
The complex is expected to foster sports development and youth engagement in the Upper West Region.
