Vodafone clinches naming rights as Al Ahly unveil Vodafone Stadium project

Al Ahly have confirmed that their new stadium, currently under construction in Sheikh Zayed City, will be officially named “Vodafone Stadium” after signing a major naming-rights and sponsorship agreement with telecommunications company Vodafone.

The Cairo giants announced that Vodafone has secured the exclusive right to put its name on Al Ahly’s new ground, which is being built in the Sixth of October area of Sheikh Zayed. The deal forms the commercial backbone of the club’s long-planned move to a modern, purpose-built home.

The sponsorship and naming-rights contract between Al Ahly and Vodafone will run for four years. Over that period, Vodafone will pay a total of 1.35 billion Egyptian pounds to the club, making it one of the most lucrative commercial agreements in Al Ahly’s history.

Signing ceremony in Cairo

The agreement was formally signed at a ceremony attended by some of the most senior figures in Egyptian sport and business.

Al Ahly were represented by club president Mahmoud El Khatib, who oversaw the completion of the deal, and Ayman Fathi, the head of Al Ahly’s football company. Both were involved in finalising the commercial and strategic framework of the partnership with Vodafone.

Also present was Mohamed Yehia Lotfy, chairman of United Sports Company, which is involved in the sports and commercial arrangements surrounding the project.

The Egyptian government was represented by Minister of Youth and Sports Gowhar Nabil, underlining the significance of the stadium development and its commercial backing for the broader sports sector in the country.

Major commercial boost for Al Ahly

The 1.35 billion Egyptian pound value of the Vodafone sponsorship represents a substantial financial injection for Al Ahly as they push ahead with the construction of their new home.

The contract gives Vodafone naming rights specifically for the new Al Ahly stadium, which will carry the “Vodafone Stadium” branding throughout the four-year term of the agreement.

The stadium is part of a wider development for Al Ahly in Sheikh Zayed, within the Sixth of October district, intended to enhance the club’s infrastructure and matchday facilities.

While no additional technical or construction details of the stadium were disclosed at the announcement, club officials framed the naming-rights partnership as a key milestone in the project, anchoring the stadium’s identity to a leading international brand from its opening.

The deal continues a trend of major Egyptian clubs seeking long-term commercial partnerships to support infrastructure projects, with Al Ahly positioning Vodafone Stadium as a central element of the club’s future on and off the pitch.
