Vladimir Petković demands €5m payout as Algeria FA seeks to sack Bosnian tactician

Algeria head coach Vladimir Petković is reportedly demanding €5 million in compensation to terminate his contract, setting the stage for a major dispute with the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) following the country’s disappointing 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.

According to reports, the Algerian FA has decided to part ways with the experienced Swiss-Bosnian tactician after Algeria’s World Cup exit and is seeking to activate what it believes is a €320,000 release clause in his contract.

However, Petković has rejected the federation’s position, insisting he is entitled to €5 million to agree to an early termination of his deal.

The disagreement has escalated into a contractual standoff, with the former Switzerland national team coach reportedly threatening to take the matter to FIFA if the two parties fail to reach an amicable settlement.

The reported legal threat could complicate the federation’s plans to appoint a new head coach ahead of the upcoming international calendar, as the FAF seeks to rebuild the national team following its World Cup disappointment.

Petković took charge of Algeria with the ambition of restoring the Desert Foxes to the summit of African football and leading them to a successful World Cup campaign.
