Congolese official Veron Mosengo Omba confirmed as sole candidate for FECOFA presidency
Veron Mosengo Omba has been officially confirmed as the only candidate for the upcoming FECOFA presidential election after the federation’s Electoral Appeals Commission validated his list and dismissed all remaining appeals.
The decision clears the way for an unprecedented election within the Congolese Football Federation, with the vote scheduled to take place on May 20, 2026.
According to the Commission’s final ruling, appeals submitted by several candidates, including Jean-Claude Mukanya and Kevin Issa Mutshioko, were declared admissible but ultimately unfounded.
The official document also confirmed the voluntary withdrawal of a number of prominent personalities linked to Congolese football administration.
Among them was former football figure Christophe Nonda Shabani, whose withdrawal significantly reshaped the electoral landscape ahead of the federation’s next leadership vote.
Following the completion of the legal and administrative process, the Commission unanimously approved the candidacy of Mosengo Omba as the sole valid list for the presidential election.
The Congolese football administrator will head into the election alongside a team of 14 running mates, including figures such as Amadou Diaby and Dayoni Wawa. The complete list has now been officially submitted for publication as preparations continue for the May 20 vote.
The electoral process had previously undergone restructuring in line with FIFA regulations, with football authorities aiming to ensure compliance with international governance standards before the election process moved forward.
With only one approved candidate remaining in the race, the FECOFA presidential election now enters its final stage under a unique configuration rarely seen within major African football federations.
The Commission stated that the legal basis for its decision was founded on the statutes and regulations of both FIFA and Confederation of African Football, a framework that officials believe has helped stabilize the federation’s electoral timetable ahead of the scheduled vote.
Mosengo Omba’s confirmation now places him in position to assume leadership of Congolese football should the electoral process proceed as planned later this month.
