Unstoppable Victor Osimhen scores to inspire Galatasaray’s 3-1 comeback win over Gotzepe
Nigerian superstar Victor Osimhen continued his red-hot form in front of goal on Sunday, scoring to propel Galatasaray to come from behind to beat Göztepe 3-1 in the Turkish Super Lig.
The visitors silenced the home support early when Efkan Bekiroglu struck in the sixth minute to give Göztepe an unexpected lead. But their advantage was short-lived.
Osimhen, who had also scored in Galatasaray’s previous match against Bodo/Glimt, pounced on a defensive error, rounded the goalkeeper, and calmly placed the ball into the net to bring his side level.
Göztepe defended resiliently despite the setback, but their hopes of holding on were dealt a major blow just before halftime when defender Malcom Bokele Mputu received a second yellow card and was sent off, leaving the visitors to play the remainder of the match with ten men.
Galatasaray capitalised on their advantage in the second half. Gabriel Sara fired them into the lead in the 63rd minute, and just four minutes later, Mauro Icardi added a third to put the result beyond doubt, securing a third straight win in all competitions for the reigning champions.
The victory maintains Galatasaray’s position at the top of the Super Lig standings with 28 points, five clear of second-placed Trabzonspor. Göztepe, meanwhile, sit fifth on 16 points after suffering only their second defeat of the season.
Osimhen’s strike marked his ninth goal of the season for club and country, adding to his tally of three goals in the Super Lig and three in the UEFA Champions League.
