Ivory Coast run riot with eight-goal display against Mauritania
Ivory Coast women’s national team delivered a commanding performance to defeat Mauritania women’s national team 8-0 in their opening match of the FIFA Series at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium.
Playing in front of a home crowd in Ebimpe, the hosts asserted their dominance from the outset, effectively deciding the contest before the interval.
Six goals in the first half highlighted the gulf between the two sides, leaving Mauritania with little opportunity to respond.
The momentum continued after the break, with Ivory Coast adding two more goals to complete a comprehensive victory.
The result marked a strong start for the team under coach Reynald Pedros, whose side controlled proceedings throughout the match.
Forward Priscille Kreto was the standout performer, scoring a hat-trick as she led the attacking display.
Habibou Ouedraogo also made a significant contribution with two goals, while Bernadette Amani, Dagba Essi and Frédérique Abrogoua each added their names to the scoresheet.
The match was characterised by sustained pressure from the Ivorians, who consistently found space in the final third and converted their chances with efficiency.
Mauritania, meanwhile, struggled to contain the attacking movement and were unable to mount a meaningful response.
Elsewhere in the competition, another high-scoring encounter saw Pakistan women’s national team record an 8-0 victory over Turks and Caicos Islands women’s national team, matching the scoreline produced in Abidjan.
For Ivory Coast, the emphatic result sets an early tone in the tournament, reflecting both attacking strength and control.
The performance will offer confidence as they continue their campaign, having made a clear statement with a dominant display on home soil.
