Moustapha Mbow targets Senegal return with World Cup ambition
Senegalese defender Moustapha Mbow says his ambition to play at the World Cup is a constant motivation as he works to secure a regular place in the national team.
The 26-year-old, who plays for Paris FC, has been delivering consistent performances at club level and believes his current form justifies a return to the international stage. Having received his first call-up in August 2025, Mbow is now aiming to establish himself permanently within the Senegal squad.
“I tick all the boxes to make the national team. It’s not easy to get in because there are a lot of players in my position. But it remains a motivation to work even harder.”
Despite being included as a reserve player during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Mbow has used that experience as encouragement rather than disappointment. Each omission, he says, has strengthened his determination to improve and reach the highest level.
Looking further ahead, the defender made clear that his ambitions extend beyond immediate selection, with his focus firmly fixed on football’s biggest stage. “I think about the World Cup every day!”
Mbow’s confidence is underpinned by his growing influence at Paris FC, where he has become a central figure this season. Regular playing time and trust from his coaches have allowed him to develop consistency, which he hopes will not go unnoticed by the national team selectors.
“Given that I’m playing regularly and have the confidence of my coaches, I think it’s fair to say that I’m now a pillar of the club.”
His performances have strengthened his case for inclusion as Senegal continue to evaluate options within the squad. Competition for places remains intense, but Mbow believes his profile and recent form can offer value.
When asked about the debate surrounding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the defender gave a clear response reflecting his national pride. “For me, Senegal won the AFCON.”
As he continues to build momentum at club level, Mbow’s focus remains unchanged—earning recognition on the international stage and turning his World Cup ambition into reality.
