U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers: Ghana’s Black Maidens set up Senegal showdown after dominant win over Liberia

Ghana’s Black Maidens have booked a place in the final round of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers after completing a commanding 8-0 aggregate victory over Liberia, setting up a decisive clash against Senegal for a spot at the global tournament.

The Black Maidens carried a comfortable advantage into the second leg in Monrovia following their 6-0 win in Accra and produced another assured display to secure a 2-0 victory away from home. Seidatu Wahab and Juliana Gyekyewaa were on target with superbly taken free-kicks as Ghana wrapped up qualification without any difficulty.

Another statement performance

The result underlined the team’s growing dominance in the qualifying campaign. After overwhelming Liberia across two legs, the Black Maidens have now won all four of their qualifying matches, scoring freely while maintaining a flawless defensive record.

Their latest success follows an equally emphatic first-round performance against Togo, whom they dispatched 8-0 on aggregate. The consistency of the team’s displays has reinforced their status as one of the strongest sides remaining in the qualification series.

Ghana’s attacking firepower has been particularly impressive. Across the two rounds, the Black Maidens have found the net 16 times while denying their opponents a single goal, highlighting both their offensive quality and defensive discipline.

Final hurdle awaits

Attention now turns to a crucial final-round encounter against Senegal, with a place at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup at stake. The first leg is scheduled to take place between July 3 and 5, while the return fixture will be played from July 10 to 12, 2026.

With qualification for the World Cup resting on the outcome of the two-legged tie, the Black Maidens will enter the contest brimming with confidence.

Their perfect record so far in the campaign, coupled with a remarkable goal difference, provides strong evidence of a side determined to finish the job and secure Ghana’s return to the world stage.
