Tshegofatso Mabasa signs three-year deal with Moroccan champions MAS Fes

Former Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa has completed his move to Moroccan champions Maghreb Association Sportive de Fes (MAS Fes), ending his search for a new club.

The Bloemfontein-born forward has agreed a three-year contract with the club and is set to continue his career in the Moroccan Botola Pro League.

A source close to Mabasa said the striker and his representatives travelled to Morocco on Sunday afternoon to finalise the transfer, which had been anticipated for some time.

“Mabasa has signed a three-year contract with the Moroccan champions and he’s looking forward to starting a new life with the club,” revealed a source close to the player.

Mabasa’s arrival is expected to be formally announced by MAS Fes today. He becomes the first South African to sign for the Moroccan club.

The move brings an end to uncertainty over the 29-year-old’s next destination after he became a free agent following the end of his loan spell at Stellenbosch FC.

Orlando Pirates allowed Mabasa to join the Winelands club for the second half of last season’s campaign, where he worked under coach Gavin Hunt. Once that loan arrangement concluded, he was left without a club while speculation continued over where he would play next.

Several prominent clubs were linked with the striker. Those reported admirers included Orlando Pirates’ arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs, Egyptian side Pyramids FC and Mamelodi Sundowns. Despite the volume of interest in his services, none of those reported moves materialised.

Mabasa will now begin a new chapter outside South Africa with MAS Fes, the reigning Moroccan champions. His transfer also gives the club its first South African player.

The striker’s departure from the South African domestic scene follows a period in which his future attracted considerable attention. The conclusion of his time at Stellenbosch FC left his immediate prospects unclear, but the agreement with MAS Fes has resolved the speculation surrounding his career.

His new club competes in the Botola Pro League, meaning Mabasa will now continue his development and pursue a fresh challenge in Moroccan football. The official confirmation from MAS Fes is expected to follow the completion of the agreement.

The transfer was reported by Soccer Laduma, which revealed that the player’s long-running search for a new club had concluded with his move to the Moroccan champions.
