TS Galaxy claim first Betway Premiership win as Chippa United remain without victory

TS Galaxy secured their first win of the new Betway Premiership season with a 3-1 victory away to Marumo Gallants, while Chippa United’s difficult start continued with a 1-1 draw at Siwelele.

The Rockets had opened their campaign with two draws, separated by a 3-2 defeat by Mamelodi Sundowns. They produced a convincing response at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium against a Marumo Gallants side still searching for its first win.

Gallants took the lead after only four minutes when Msindisi Ndlovu found the net. TS Galaxy responded 17 minutes later, with Victor Letsoalo bringing the visitors level in the 21st minute.

Sedwyn George completed the turnaround five minutes after half-time, before Letsoalo doubled his tally from the penalty spot on the hour mark. His well-taken spot-kick appeared to put the result beyond doubt.

Marumo Gallants did give themselves hope when Onke Moletshe scored with 16 minutes remaining, but TS Galaxy held on to claim all three points.

The victory moved Bernard Parker’s side up to eighth place with five points. Phuti Mohafe’s Marumo Gallants remain 15th, with only one point from their opening four matches. Their record so far consists of three defeats and one draw, the latter coming against newly promoted Kruger United at the start of the season.

Durban City earn first win

Kruger United’s wait for a first Betway Premiership victory also continued as they were beaten 2-0 at home by Durban City.

The newly promoted team remain on one point and offered little indication that they would take anything from the match. Durban City made a fast start, with Jean Lubumba scoring after seven minutes.

Gaston Sirino then sealed the points by scoring his first goal for the club five minutes into the second half.

The defeat leaves Abraham Mongoya’s Kruger United at the foot of the table. Durban City, meanwhile, have moved into seventh place with five points after recording their first victory of the new campaign.

Chippa United still searching for a win

Chippa United remain without a victory after being held to a 1-1 draw by Siwelele.

The Chilli Boys moved in front seven minutes after half-time when Azola Matrose scored in the 52nd minute. Their advantage lasted until the 75th minute, when Yandisa Mfolozi equalised to earn Siwelele a share of the points.

Brandon Truter’s Chippa United are 12th in the league standings with three points from three matches. Siwelele sit 14th with two points.

The result means Chippa United have yet to win this season, while Siwelele remain just two points behind them in the early Betway Premiership table.
