Trabzonspor close in on deal to sign former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah

Trabzonspor are reportedly close to reaching an agreement to sign Mohamed Salah, according to French football news outlet Foot Mercato.

The Turkish club have opened negotiations with Salah’s agent after talks between the Egypt international and Besiktas broke down, and are now believed to be nearing a final agreement.

Besiktas previously confirmed that discussions with Salah had been halted because of what the club described as the high demands made by his representative. Trabzonspor subsequently moved to take advantage of the stalled negotiations and began talks directly with the player’s camp.

Salah has also been linked with a move to Al-Ittihad in recent days, following the failure of the negotiations with Besiktas. However, Foot Mercato reports that Trabzonspor have made significant progress in their efforts to secure his signature.

The forward left Liverpool at the end of last season, bringing his nine-year spell with the club to an end. He had been a Liverpool player since 2017 and concluded his time at Anfield before becoming a free agent, according to the report.

Trabzonspor would provide Salah with another possible destination in Turkey, where he has been linked with more than one club since his departure from Liverpool. The club finished third in the Turkish league last season and will compete in the UEFA Europa League campaign that begins with the qualifying play-off round for the main stage.

The potential move would also see Salah join a club with previous Egyptian connections. Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” and Ayman Abdelaziz have both represented Trabzonspor in the past.

Salah’s latest transfer situation has developed after his former club announced the end of his Liverpool career. He spent nine seasons with the Reds and is now considering his next step, with Trabzonspor emerging as the club reportedly closest to an agreement.

The Egyptian forward has also recently returned with Egypt from the World Cup, where the national team were eliminated by Argentina in the last 16.

Trabzonspor’s strong league finish and their place in the UEFA Europa League provide the backdrop to the reported negotiations. The club are due to begin their European campaign in the play-off round, while talks over a possible deal for Salah continue.

The report was published by Foot Mercato on Saturday, 1 August 2026, at 13:35.
