Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou backs Yves Bissouma amid form concerns
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has reiterated his unwavering support for midfielder Yves Bissouma, despite recent scrutiny over the player’s form and absence from the Mali national team.
Bissouma’s omission from the Mali squad last week raised eyebrows, prompting questions about his performances for Tottenham this season.
However, Postecoglou remains steadfast in his belief in the player’s abilities and contributions to the team.
Reflecting on Bissouma’s season, Postecoglou acknowledged the challenges the midfielder has faced, including suspension and international commitments, which have disrupted his rhythm on the pitch.
“I think it’s probably indicative of our season,” commented Postecoglou. “He has been very good at times but he hasn’t really got a flow.
It’s very, very hard for any player to maintain certain levels if you’ve not got consistency in game-time and consistency in flow.”
Despite these setbacks, Postecoglou highlighted Bissouma’s recent improvement and emphasized his importance to the team when performing at his best.
“I still think he’s been a really important player for us this year,” said Postecoglou. “When he is playing at the levels I know he can play, it makes us a much more difficult team to stop.”
When asked about Bissouma’s mindset amid speculation about his form, Postecoglou dismissed suggestions of frustration, emphasizing the collective challenge faced by both player and club to achieve consistency.
“I don’t sense that in him,” remarked Postecoglou. “The challenge is to fight through that and make sure you come out on the other side stronger and more consistent.”
As Tottenham navigates the remainder of the season, Postecoglou’s unwavering confidence in Bissouma underscores the club’s commitment to supporting its players through challenging periods, with hopes of emerging stronger and more resilient in the face of adversity.
