Tottenham have been given a lift before their Premier League meeting with Manchester United, with Jan Paul van Hecke and Micky van de Ven reported to have avoided serious injuries while away with the Netherlands.
Van Hecke was forced to leave the Netherlands camp after sustaining a foot problem during the 2-1 victory over Serbia. The 26-year-old defender did, however, return for the team’s first training session after the match before travelling back to London.
Initial reports indicate that the injury is minor, meaning Van Hecke could still be considered for Tottenham’s visit to Old Trafford on Saturday, October 10.
Van de Ven was also hurt in the win over Serbia. Luka Jovic accidentally stood on the Tottenham defender’s hand, leaving him in clear discomfort and prompting his withdrawal from the game.
The Netherlands subsequently provided a reassuring assessment of Van de Ven’s condition. Manager Xavi said the injury was not serious, despite the player experiencing some dizziness.
“He’s okay. He was a bit dizzy because he had the finger injury, but it’s not a big injury,” Xavi said.
The pair’s availability could be particularly important for Tottenham, who are currently bottom of the Premier League and face another demanding fixture against Manchester United.
Both defenders may now be in contention to make the trip to Old Trafford, giving Tottenham the possibility of having two first-choice defensive options available despite their setbacks on international duty.
