Tottenham close in on £60m deal for Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a season-long loan for Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush, with an obligation to complete a £60m purchase next year, according to British media reports on Wednesday.

Sky Sports and the Press Association report that the Egypt international is due to undergo a medical at Tottenham before the transfer is finalised.

If completed, Marmoush will become Tottenham’s second arrival from Manchester City within days. Brazil winger Savio joined Spurs on Tuesday for a reported initial fee of £75m. The player, previously known as Savinho, now wants to be known as Savio.

Tottenham’s summer spending has already passed £300m. Before Savio’s arrival, the north London club had signed Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi.

The scale of that recruitment has not yet translated into an improved start on the pitch. Tottenham began their Premier League campaign with a 3-0 defeat away to Brentford last weekend.

Marmoush’s proposed move would give Manchester City the chance to recover almost all of the £59m they paid Eintracht Frankfurt for the player in January 2025. The 27-year-old has scored 16 goals in 62 appearances for City, although most of his time at the Etihad has been spent providing cover for Erling Haaland.

He was an unused substitute in Manchester City’s Premier League opener against Bournemouth on Sunday. His most recent appearance for the club came in the Community Shield the previous week.

Marmoush has previously shared the Manchester City squad with Ilkay Gundogan, Josko Gvardiol and Haaland. His potential departure would be another significant change at City following Pep Guardiola’s exit as manager at the end of last season.

A number of established players have also left the Etihad since then. Rodri, Bernardo Silva, John Stones, Tijjani Reijnders, Nathan Ake and James Trafford have all departed Manchester City.

Tottenham’s pursuit of Marmoush represents another major move in an ambitious transfer window, but the club will be seeking an immediate response after their heavy opening-day loss. The proposed structure of the deal would allow Spurs to use the forward during the coming season before being committed to a £60m permanent transfer next year.
