Takalani Mazhamba makes Kaizer Chiefs history
Takalani Mazhamba has earned his place in Kaizer Chiefs history after making his first-team debut against Chippa United on Saturday.
The young goalkeeper was handed the start in a surprise move, and he took full advantage of the opportunity.
At 18 years, 11 months, and 23 days, Mazhamba became the youngest goalkeeper to debut for Chiefs in the Premier Soccer League era. That mark places him ahead of Itumeleng Khune and Thela Ngobeni, both of whom were 20 when they made their Chiefs debuts. It is a proud moment for the club, which continues to trust talented youngsters in important roles.
Mazhamba did not break the PSL’s overall age record, though. That still belongs to Jethren Barr, who made his professional debut for Bidvest Wits at just 17 years, 7 months, and 14 days in 2013. Even so, Mazhamba’s rise is a major milestone and a sign of the depth coming through at Chiefs.
His debut adds another memorable chapter to the club’s goalkeeping story and gives supporters a fresh reason to be excited about the future.
