Sundowns, Pirates and Chiefs: How their latest signings compare

The PSL transfer window closed on Monday night with Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs completing contrasting recruitment campaigns.

Pirates were the most active of the three rivals, adding 13 players, while Sundowns made eight signings and Chiefs brought in five.

Mamelodi Sundowns

Sundowns strengthened at right-back after Khuliso Mudau was injured, signing Thabang Matuludi from Polokwane City and Deano Van Rooyen as a free agent.

The Brazilians also recruited midfielder Thabo Cele, who was available as a free agent, to provide greater depth following the passing of Jayden Adams.

Sundowns added further international experience by bringing Antonio Van Wyk back from SV Ried and Cassius Mailula back from Toronto. Siyanda Ndlovu joined from Golden Arrows in a move that attracted considerable attention, while Tsiki Ntsabeleng’s loan transfer was made permanent.

Wandile Dube completed his move on transfer deadline day, taking the club’s total number of new signings to eight, including Ntsabeleng.

Orlando Pirates

Pirates’ 13 new arrivals do not include Mpho Padime and Simphiwe Masilela, who were promoted from the DStv Diski Challenge side.

Ghampani Lungu, who joined from Siwelele, and Stellenbosch duo Mthetheleli Mthiyane and Thapelo Mokobodi have made an immediate impact at The Buccaneers.

Sbangani Zulu, signed from Richards Bay, and Neo Rapoo, who also arrived from Siwelele, are still adapting to their new surroundings.

The return of Mohau Nkota on loan from Al-Ettifaq was among the club’s notable moves. Pirates’ other signings were Bulelani Sigomoshe from Milford, Matome Mmolai from Leicesterford City, Sebastian Pedersen from Sogndal, Aphiwe Biliti from Siwelele, Bheki Mabuza from Marumo Gallants and goalkeeper Dublin Boon from Stellenbosch.

Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs made the fewest additions, completing five new signings during the window.

The club signed Thabo Moloisane as a free agent and brought in goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner on a free transfer. Their two transfer deals were for Langelihle Phili, the marquee arrival from Stellenbosch, and Adolf Bitegeko from Azam.

Amakhosi also secured Faiz Abrahams on loan from Stellenbosch.

Their final addition was Khanyisa Mayo on a permanent deal. Mayo had spent last season on loan from CR Belouizdad.
