Sunderland explore Premier League swoop for Dodi Lukebakio

Belgian winger Dodi Lukebakio is being linked with a move from Benfica to Sunderland, with the Premier League club reported as a potential destination for the 28-year-old.

Lukebakio joined Benfica from Sevilla on 1 September 2025 in a €20m transfer and remains under contract with the Portuguese club until June 2030. The right winger has made three Liga Portugal appearances this season, all as a substitute, while also featuring three times in Europa League qualifying.

He scored once and provided one assist in those European qualifying appearances, but has yet to register a goal or assist in the league. Lukebakio has also made three appearances at the 2026 World Cup.

A move to Sunderland would represent a return to English football for Lukebakio, who previously played for Watford. He joined the Hornets from Belgian club Charleroi in January 2018 before spending the following season on loan at Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Lukebakio began his senior career with Anderlecht and has also played for Toulouse, Hertha BSC and Wolfsburg. His current market value is listed at €15m, while Benfica’s long-term contract position means any potential deal would require agreement between the clubs rather than involving a free transfer.
