Stoke City are on the verge of finalising a €5 million deal to sign Mamadou Lamine Camara from Moroccan side RS Berkane, in what would be one of the most high-profile departures in the history of the Botola Pro league.
Camara, 22, played a pivotal role in RS Berkane’s title-winning campaign this season, making 39 appearances and contributing two goals and two assists.
The Senegalese international has attracted serious interest from the English Championship, with Stoke City moving swiftly to secure his services ahead of the 2024–2025 season.
Local Moroccan media report that an agreement has been reached between both clubs, with the Potters tabling a €5 million offer to secure Camara’s release from the final year of his contract.
Should the move be confirmed, it would mark the second-highest transfer fee received by a Botola club, just behind the €6 million paid for Ayoub El Kaabi in 2018 when he moved to China’s Hebei FC—also from RS Berkane.
The midfielder is expected to sign a four-year contract with the English club, which would keep him at the bet365 Stadium until 2029.
His medical examination is expected to take place in the coming days, after which the deal could be officially announced.
Since joining RS Berkane in August 2021 from Senegal’s Darou Salam Football Academy, Camara has established himself as one of the top talents in Moroccan football.
Towering at 1.93m, the defensive midfielder has accumulated over 100 appearances for the Oranges and collected an impressive six trophies, including two CAF Confederation Cup titles in 2022 and 2025.
A product of Senegal’s youth development system, Camara has represented the nation at various levels—U17, U20, U23, and senior level—earning five caps and scoring once for the senior team.
He also lifted the U20 Africa Cup of Nations trophy in Egypt with the Lionceaux and has built a growing reputation for his composure, tactical intelligence, and ball-winning ability.
Stoke City manager Mark Robins is believed to be keen on bolstering his midfield options and sees Camara as a long-term asset who can bring both steel and structure to the side’s engine room.
The Championship side finished 18th last season and are looking to rebuild with fresh talent as they aim for a more competitive campaign.
Should the transfer be finalised as expected, it would mark a major step forward in Camara’s career and further underline the growing export value of talent emerging from African domestic leagues.
