It will be difficult for Liverpool to replace Mohamed Salah – Jamie Carragher
Jamie Carragher has paid glowing tribute to Mohamed Salah, describing the Egyptian forward as one of the greatest players in Liverpool FC history while stressing that replacing him will require careful planning rather than marquee signings.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo on Monday, Carragher admitted that few could have foreseen the remarkable impact Salah would go on to make at Anfield.
“He was an exceptional player, and no one could have predicted what he would achieve with Liverpool,” Carragher said.
“He’s been here for nine seasons, and I think the secret to his success lies in his consistency.”
The former defender highlighted Salah’s durability and relentless availability as key traits that set him apart.
“What I like about Salah is that he plays every week. That’s something I’m proud of,” he noted.
“Sometimes you need luck to avoid injuries, but what stands out is his constant desire to be involved in every game.”
Carragher also placed Salah among an elite group of Liverpool forwards from past eras, including Luis Suarez, Michael Owen, and Robbie Fowler, while cautioning that finding a direct replacement will be no simple task.
“It won’t be easy to replace him,” he said. “But Liverpool might look for a different type of right winger—someone who creates chances—rather than signing a big-name star.”
Carragher further urged the club to focus on recruitment strategy over reputation, pointing to recent transfer windows as a reminder that high-profile arrivals do not always guarantee success.
“Signing the right player for the right reasons—that’s what Liverpool needs,” he concluded.
Salah recently confirmed he will leave Liverpool at the end of the current season, despite having a contract running until 2027.
The forward is yet to decide his next move, with options reportedly including leagues in Saudi Arabia, the United States, or a continuation of his career in Europe.
