Former Morocco international Faycal Fajr returns home to join Moghreb Tetouan

Former Morocco international Faycal Fajr has returned to Moroccan football after joining Moghreb Tetouan ahead of the new season.

The 36-year-old midfielder completed his move to the northern Moroccan club on Tuesday, bringing extensive experience from a career that has taken him across Europe and the Gulf.

Fajr becomes one of Moghreb Tetouan’s most notable signings of the current transfer window as the club continues to strengthen its squad.

Vast experience across Europe and the Gulf

Fajr arrives in Tetouan following a lengthy career abroad.

The experienced midfielder played for several clubs during his time in European football, including Caen, Deportivo La Coruña and Getafe.

He later moved to Turkey, where he represented Sivasspor, before continuing his career in Saudi Arabia with Al Wehda and Al Taawoun.

Fajr spent last season with Al Jubail before deciding to return to his homeland.

Former Atlas Lion brings international experience

At international level, Fajr represented Morocco from 2015 and was part of the Atlas Lions squad at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

He made his final appearance for Morocco in 2022, bringing an end to a seven-year international career.

His experience at both international and club level is expected to make him one of the senior figures in Moghreb Tetouan’s squad.

Ambitious recruitment drive continues

Fajr’s arrival forms part of an ambitious rebuilding process at Moghreb Tetouan following the election of Mohamed Jadaouni as the club’s new president.

The new administration has been working to recruit experienced players capable of strengthening the team ahead of the upcoming campaign.

The club are reportedly pursuing further additions, with former RS Berkane defender Issoufou Dayo expected to complete a move to Tetouan.

Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed Abu Gabal is also reportedly expected in the city to finalise the formalities surrounding a potential transfer.

New chapter in Moroccan football

For Fajr, the move represents a return to Moroccan football after spending much of his professional career abroad.

The veteran midfielder will now hope to use his experience from La Liga, the Turkish Super Lig, Saudi football and international competition to help Moghreb Tetouan build a stronger and more competitive side.

His arrival could prove an important statement of intent as the Tetouan club continues its efforts to reshape the squad for the new season.
