St Pauli coach raises concern over Beninese forward Andreas Hountondji after Bayern clash
St Pauli coach Alexander Blessin voiced strong concern over the condition of striker Andreas Hountondji after the club’s defeat to Bayern Munich, as the Beninese forward left the pitch injured shortly after scoring.
Hountondji opened the scoring for St Pauli and gave his side early momentum, but his night took a sharp turn when he collided with Bayern defender Jonathan Tah.
The forward immediately reached for the back of his leg and signalled to the bench, prompting his substitution and raising fears of a hamstring issue.
Blessin addressed the situation during his post match press conference and confirmed Hountondji’s physical discomfort.
The coach explained that the forward struggled to maintain his usual intensity in attack once the problem surfaced, which forced the staff to remove him from the match.
The forward felt hamstring pain and could no longer drive the attack with the energy he displayed earlier in the game.
Blessin noted that the medical team will determine the full extent of the damage once all examinations are complete.
St Pauli now wait for clarity on the striker’s recovery timeline.
The club scheduled an MRI scan for early this week to examine the injury in detail.
The results will reveal whether Hountondji suffered a structural problem or a muscular strain.
“We are expecting the MRI results tomorrow,” Blessin said. “We will then know whether it is a structural injury or simply a muscle strain.”
Hountondji remains one of St Pauli’s most important attacking players, and the club hopes for positive news as they continue their league campaign.
