M’Baye Niang joins Dunkerque on deal to revive Ligue 2 career

USL Dunkerque have completed the signing of Senegal international M’Baye Niang on a one-year contract, with the option of a further season.

The 31-year-old forward was a free agent before agreeing to join the Ligue 2 club, where he will look to relaunch his career and provide greater attacking threat for the Maritimes.

Niang began his career with Caen and has since played for a number of clubs across Europe and France, including AC Milan, Montpellier, Rennes, Bordeaux, Auxerre and Empoli.

His experience at the highest level, combined with his physical profile, is expected to give Dunkerque more attacking options as they seek to improve their results.

Dunkerque have collected five points from their opening five Ligue 2 matches. Niang is therefore arriving at a time when the club need greater efficiency in the final third, with the former Rennes forward set to take on an important role in the weeks ahead.

His current market value is estimated at 800,000 euros by Transfermarkt.

The move gives Niang an opportunity to re-establish himself as a key player, while Dunkerque hope his experience can help them fulfil their ambitions for the season.

Dunkerque’s next Ligue 2 fixture will be against Saint-Etienne in the sixth round of the French second division.
