South African striker Sinoxolo Kwayiba joins Stellenbosch on permanent deal
South African forward Sinoxolo Kwayiba has completed his move from Chippa United to Stellenbosch FC, bringing an end to weeks of speculation surrounding his future.
The talented attacker finalized the transfer today after Stellenbosch spent much of the season closely monitoring his progress at Chippa United. The Cape Winelands outfit are believed to have identified Kwayiba as one of their priority attacking targets as they continue strengthening their squad ahead of the new campaign.
The move represents another major opportunity in the career of the former Orlando Pirates FC striker, who will now be hoping to revive and stabilize his career after a difficult spell with the Buccaneers last season.
Kwayiba initially left Chippa United for Orlando Pirates amid high expectations, with many believing he had earned a deserved move to one of the country’s biggest clubs following his impressive performances for the Chili Boys. However, his time at Pirates failed to unfold as anticipated.
The striker struggled for regular playing time at the Soweto giants and eventually found himself on the fringes of the squad. Due to limited opportunities and fierce competition for places, Kwayiba’s stay at Pirates was short-lived as he returned to Chippa United midway through the campaign in search of more minutes and continuity.
Despite that setback, the forward managed to rebuild confidence during his second spell with Chippa, where his performances once again attracted interest from rival clubs in the Betway Premiership. His work ethic, movement in attack, physical presence, and ability to stretch defensive lines reportedly convinced Stellenbosch that he could become an important addition to their attacking department.
The transfer also highlights the admiration Stellenbosch head coach Gavin Hunt has for strikers with Kwayiba’s profile. Hunt has long been known for preferring hardworking forwards capable of pressing defenders, holding up play, and contributing both on and off the ball.
With Stellenbosch preparing for another demanding season that could include domestic and continental commitments, the club appears eager to add depth and variety to its frontline. Kwayiba’s arrival is expected to provide further competition in attack while also giving Hunt another tactical option in the final third.
The timing of the transfer is also significant given the uncertainty surrounding current Stellies striker Tshegofatso Mabasa, who is expected to leave the club after his loan spell from Orlando Pirates FC comes to an end. Mabasa’s likely departure could open the door for Kwayiba to establish himself as a regular starter under Hunt.
For Kwayiba, this latest move could prove crucial in determining the next phase of his career. Unlike his previous transfer to Pirates, where opportunities were limited, the striker will now hope to secure consistent game time and fully demonstrate his potential at a club renowned for developing players and providing them with a platform to grow.
Stellenbosch have steadily built a reputation as one of the most ambitious and well-organized clubs in South African football, and Kwayiba will be aiming to use this fresh start to cement his place within the team while helping the club compete for honours.
Having already experienced both the excitement and disappointment of a high-profile transfer, the forward will be determined to ensure his move to Stellenbosch becomes a long-term success rather than another temporary stop before a return to Chippa United.
