Christian Kofane nears Bayer Leverkusen contract extension

Bayer Leverkusen are close to securing Christian Kofane’s long-term future with a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2031.

The 20-year-old Cameroon international’s current deal runs until 2029, but Bild reports that an early two-year extension is now in the final stages of completion.

The move rewards Kofane’s rapid progress since joining from Albacete in summer 2025 for €5.25 million. Initially planned as a loan, the transfer was made permanent after he impressed immediately. Last season he registered 16 goal involvements in 44 competitive matches, with seven goals and nine assists underlining his growing influence.

Under the new agreement, Kofane’s annual salary is set to rise to around €4 million. No release clause is expected to be included, despite strong interest from the Premier League. Aston Villa, Everton and Newcastle are all said to have tabled offers close to €50 million in August, while Arsenal have also monitored his situation.

Kofane rejected those approaches, choosing to continue his development in the Bundesliga. Leverkusen view the extension as a signal of ambition, retaining one of Europe’s most promising young attackers as they compete on multiple fronts this season.
